Very few people have more kitchen space than they need. It would be a nice problem to have, but it’s just not often a reality.
The truth is, kitchens are a multi-functional area, serving as a food production site, mail room, coffee station, dining room, hang-out, meeting space, hardware store, study hall, and grocery department all rolled into one.
This kind of function calls for specialized design, don’t you think?
Creative Kitchen Storage Ideas
With all of the above in mind, we’ve put together a few popular (and creative) kitchen storage ideas that you may just want to include during your next remodeling project.
- Corner drawer – A corner can be a very under-utilized part of a room, and your cabinets are no exception! The spinning drawers of yesteryear can still work fairly well, but they often feel clunky and inefficient. And, if you drop the parsley off the back it can be a real paint to dig out… Why not use corner drawers instead? They absorb the entire space, providing optimum storage and efficiency.
- Appliance garage – Every square inch of counter space is valuable! Often located at the end of your counter and built into the wall, an appliance garage is a closed off section (it looks much like just another cabinet) that holds your coffee pot, blender, mixer, or whatever else is normally sitting out.
- Utensil drawer – Rather than keep a large jar on your counter to hold your spatulas, tongs, and ladles, why not use a recessed drawer built into your cabinetry? One designed for the purpose can keep your utensils neat and organized, and also out of sight.
- Pet bowls – Have you ever tripped over your four-legged companion’s food or water bowl? Few things are more frustrating than a soaked sock when you’re trying to get out the door in the morning. Building a recessed shelf into your kitchen island is a great way to get those dishes off the floor but still have them readily accessible for your pets.
- Mail station – Many homeowners are adding a little nook to their kitchen that acts specifically as a small office space, with just a few slots for envelopes. This can keep your checkbook, correspondence, and bills all organized and neat.
